I was put in contact with Discretion Hearing when I contacted Hearing Aids UK after my 93 year old mum lost her hearing aids whilst in hospital and we had waited for several weeks for the NHS audiologist to visit... read more her in the nursing home she had been transferred to. We had 6 weeks of struggling as mum is profoundly deaf and we had to communicate by writing everything down for her. It was miserable and frustrating for her and us. David arranged to come out very quickly and was very reassuring and helpful with mum. He did a thorough series of tests and talked me through the options. He was very clear that if we preferred to wait for the NHS to replace them for free that was absolutely fine and I felt under absolutely no pressure. Given the uncertainty and mum's distress I decided to go ahead with the purchase. I know that David went above and beyond to get the new aids made as quickly as possible, expediting the manufacture of the earpieces and even sending someone to collect them when there was going to be a delay. The day he came out to fit them for her was very emotional. As he switched them on and adjusted the volume, then asked her 'can you hear that?', she visibly jumped with the surprise of hearing again for the first time in weeks. She was then holding back tears as she told us how she had thought she would never hear again and we were all pretty overcome with it. It's clear that the new hearing aids are working far better than the ones that were lost did. I am so grateful to David for everything he has done to help my mum, and she thinks he is brilliant! It's so good for everyone to be able to hold proper conversations with her now with no need to write it down or for her to try and lip-read! The NHS audiologist finally came to fit one hearing aid 2 weeks later! It's good to have spares but mum is sticking with the ones she's got! In fact she doesn't want to take them out at all!
